  8. What is SmartCap?
  9. -----------------

  11. SmartCap is a Windows application for converting Indeo(tm) Video files between
  12. AVI and MOV file formats. It can also be used to capture AVI and MOV format 
  13. videos.  It is compatible with Microsoft's Video for Windows*, Apple's 
  14. QuickTime* for Windows, the Intel Smart Video Recorder Pro, and the Intel 
  15. Smart Video Recorder.

  20. * SmartCap supports Indeo video bit streams R3.1,  R3.2, and Raw.

  22. * Quick conversion between .MOV and .AVI formats. Video data is NOT 
  23.   recompressed during conversion, resulting in fast processing and higher 
  24.   quality output.

  26. * Real-time capture and compression of Intel Indeo video files in either 
  27.   QuickTime .MOV or Video for Windows .AVI formats, using the Intel Smart 
  28.   Video Recorder Pro or Intel Smart Video Recorder.

  30. * Edit controls allow you to select and save only the portion of the video 
  31.   you want to keep.

  40. * SmartCap can now translate Intel Indeo video files with frame sizes as large 
  41.   as 640x480.

  43. * SmartCap now correctly sets the 'vmhd' flag avoiding playback problems during
  44.   asynchronous QuickTime 2.0 playback.

  46. * SmartCap no longer truncates the value when creating the AVI frame rate.  As 
  47.   there still may be some rounding error (less than 1/10th of a frame per 
  48.   second), for the best results use QuickTime frame durations that result in 
  49.   Video for Windows integer frame rates.

  51. * SmartCap is now able to translate both 'raw ' and 'twos' 8-bit QuickTime 
  52.   Audio formats.

  54. * SmartCap now correctly sets the color depth of YVU9 MOV videos.

  56. Indeo(tm) Video R3.2 component for QuickTime for Windows

  59. The Indeo Video R3.2 component is available on  CompuServe Intel Arch. Labs forum
  60. (Go INTELA), Intel's Application Support BBS, (916) 356-3600, and AppleLink in
  61. Intel's folder in 3rd Party Updates. The Intel Raw Video component is bundled
  62. with the R3.2 component.  The file name is i322qw.exe. This is a self-extracting
  63. archive file.  These components are also included in the QuickTime for Windows
  64. 2.0 release (beta and later).

  69. * Minimum required system configuration: Intel486(tm) SX-25 microprocessor,
  70.   4MB RAM, 30MB hard disk space, 256-color VGA display, Windows 3.1.
  71.   
  72. * Either the Intel Smart Video Recorder Pro or the Intel Smart Video Recorder
  73.   (and their associated software) must be installed to capture video.

  75. * A Windows-compatible sound card (and associated software) must be installed
  76.   to capture and play audio.

  78. * Video for Windows 1.0 (or later) must be installed to capture, play or edit
  79.   .AVI files.

  81. * QuickTime for Windows 1.1 (or later) AND Video for Windows must be installed
  82.   to capture, play, or edit QuickTime for Windows .MOV files.
